The tailors and shop windows of Pera

The tailors and shop windows of Pera

Pera is Greek for the opposite shore. In the nineteenth century, tailors, drapers and shop windows stood side by side across the Golden Horn, and this is where the city met European fashion.

Today the workshops of Osmanbey and Beyoğlu do the same work: cutting, sewing, choosing fabric. Perahaus exists to open the products of these workshops to the world.

The window has changed. It used to be glass, now it is a screen. The rule is the same: the work shown has to be real.
